SSHMP is honored to be featured in the Opening Ceremony for Hyde Park Art Center‘s
MLK Celebration Day. We’ll be showing selected clips about the life and
legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr as seen through South Side home
movies, featuring the 1963 NAACP March where Myrlie Evers accepted the
Springarn medal posthumously for her husband Medgar Evers, images from
the West Side riots after the assassination, a trip to Memphis to see
the Lorraine Hotel and Dr. King’s gravesite, and footage of Resurrection
City, DC in 1968. Films are from the Lynette Frazier and Jean Patton
Collections.
MLK Celebration Day continues from 11am-5pm with movie screenings, art making, spoken word, performance and curator tours. Visit the HPAC event sitefor details.
